Mikhail Gorbachev and the Collapse of Communism

Towards the end of the communist reign in Russia the leader and president Mikhail Gorbachev would choke the lst breath out of the communist party. He felt it separatedthe nation and this arms race incorporated into the communist government was affecting the econmoy and the people of Russia and Gorbachev wanted to end it. He wanted to expand russias new ideals and influence so he proposed a glasnot plan or openess that would lighten up the communist hold on russia and he also planned The perestroika or economic restructering that would bring new economic ideals and politcal functions much similar to ours. The people saw the difference in their country and they were on Gorbachevs side. Not only did he increase the economy but he also brought russia into better foreign realations with opposing countries. So he gave the people hope and they no longer needed communism and then the system was finished and russia was brought into a new era of economic reform and this act probably ended alot of tensions and potential attack and threats.Communism had died in the mother land and the wall had been teared down it was a new day and a new step at world peace.

The Collapse of Communism

Communism was a major political party and belief that swept through europe and parts of asia and america and other countries were worried that this communism would spread and take over the world.People felt these ideals were for the people but it was not perfect by any extent and the people that commun ism originally tried to help saw the corruption of the system and soon it would crumble in the end.The reasons for ending communism had alot to do with the economy and the rights of the people. The communist ideal started to die after they lost influence and the people in the nation began to disagree and the ideal was dying without the support of the people it would soon collapse. Mikeal Gorbachev was the leader toward the end and he could not save communism and everything started turning against the system. The Berlin wall which had been a symbol of communism that separted east berlin from west was also very tyranical and the people wanted germany together and when that wall was teared down communism had symbolicaly went to an end.Even though communism faded out of being a threat but still some small countries have some reamnants of communism but the regime of this system died with the belief

African Independence

Africa has been through many hardships and battles to get freedom and a nation with stability. They have had many white oppressors that toke advantage of their land and the people of Africa. Many people fought and became famous in the battle for independence in Africa. For example Ethiopia,Somalia and south Africa where lands that had battles and protest for the rights of the people that lived there. This conflict stretched on and had many outcomes and events that make it a famous historical topic. Leaders like Nelson Mandela who had fought long and hard and been persecuted for their fighting for their rights and arrested but they showed honor and discipline and led the people into liberation they gave their people a reason to fight and stand up and they had also showed the world that a land will be liberated. These people were warriors and i stood up for their land and gave their time and effort for the cause

Nelson Mandela And The Aparthied

South Africa had been a place of history and heroism. A wealthy country that had whites and blacks living together.Though they were all south Africans they often had disputes based on race and political differences. The native Africans did not like that their country was taken over because of how special it was and they felt it was rightfully theirs.A man known named Nelson Mandela would be the voice of redemption to his people and to his country. This man went through a long struggle to fight the white oppressors that had been taking advantage of his land. He stuck up against the white power that ruled and he was criticized for it.He protested much like the ways of Gandhi and demand equality and the right of his land. The government saw him as a threat and hes was jailed for over 20 years and this just made him look better because all those years his people were following in his image and fought. When Mandela Was freed he was elected president and tried to bring good relations to the whites and blacks in South Africa.he led his country into a new era and is a symbol of independence and standing up for whats right. The Apartheid which is African for separateness a racial separation of blacks and whites that went on in south Africa but was fought against by Nelson Mandela.

Film Lesson: "The Right Stuff"

This film was a document on the "war" between america and Russia to be the conquerers of space and to be the first to enter space. It basically tells of a battle for power and a title of being the first nation to get into space. Russia got the first into space but America was the first to land sucessfully on a land which was the moon. This was a major turning point in history but also a win against the communist Russia which was important that we succeded.

My favorite part was the ship launch which was epic in the 60s and now because it is so amazing to see this hunk of metal that flies into space and beating the Russians at their own game.

NATO and The Warsaw Pact

They formed many counteractions and Try to stop the cold war tensions. A pact that was made to try and limit the amount of weapon threats and conflicts that would occur from different vies and ideals.Russia and America's cold war were prime examples of confilcts that needed resolution so NATO would be the oragnization to help.In other cases NATO would try to ease tensions or put a stop to antagonists of war to stop the tensions. These forces were effective in some ways and people may debate they stopped the cold war.

"Night and Fog"

This film was much more compelling to Schindler's List in the sense it was actual footage of the allies getting into a death camp and finding thousands of boides the nazi did not have enough time to burn. This is dastardly aand exposes the truth and horror of the holocaust for what it really is and gives a new perspective to death. The nazis killed millions of innocent jewish people all throughout europe and the jews faced extinction. The documentary shows disturbing images of bodies and the methods of death the nazis carried out.You see corpses piled high and starvation and dismemberment is not hidden in Aushwitz. The documentary which is the real perspective of the holocaust is better than the hollywood version because it shows clear and presnet evidence of the horros of the holocaust in real life. There are no special effects or producers just the evil and horrid truth of the holocaust of the jews.

Schindler's List And The Holocaust

In the film of schindler's list i see the horros of the holocauust in the hollywood way.The holocaust was an evil event that had claimed the lives of so many innocent people and they were murdered and killed in ways that animals would not have to circum to. Some of the horrific images that the film had portrayed were the massive gatherings of jews to have them executed. This was horrible to see thousands of people about to be gassed and then burned and most of them did not expect the horrors that had awaited them at the deathcamps. The movie makes you feel sad for the jews in the fact they are slaughtered for a belief and no an action or crime they had commited. The documentary "Night and Fog" was more compelling in the fact the images shown were actual footage and real bodies being moved and pushed around like rotton vegtables. The truth is always more frightening than the fiction that portrays it.Though both films are horid retelling of the holocaust and this makes you think and appricaite every day life

The Treaty of Versailles (ended WW I)

The image “http://www.doglegs.net/cclovett/World%20War%20I.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors. The Treaty Of Versailles was a very controversial action in many ways and also led to alot of different events in the future of europe and the world. The treaty came into existantce after WW1.Germany had lost and now were at the mercy of the allied countries which was not a good thing for everyone who was German. The Treaty composed of many different demands the allies held for the germans to complete because they had lost and the demands were severance pay for the war,but what the allies had not known was that Germany needed its money and assets to help rebuild their own country because they had also faced alot of damage, if not more than the allies because they had lost.Parts of the treaty included that Germany needed to pay alot of money in the millions of severance pay, also they had to give up their military power in case they ever tried to rise again.Another condition of the treaty was Germany needed to give land in other countries(like africa) to the allies. I feel that this treaty was unfair in many ways because Germany was in a bad position as it was and needed alot of effort, time, and money to pay up the damage of their homeland and they did not need to help build back other countries. After they paid back their dues Germany's economy was smashed and it was bound to enter the poor house. This gave birth to the age of Hitler's power.Germany had become so desparate for prosperity and new leadership that when Hitler came with his facist ideals,it would've sounded like salvation to the German people and they would have been easy to manipulate and follow in Hitler's footsteps. The problem was that by time the people saw Hitler was a killer and sadist it was too late and the people were afraid of him and the power he had accumalated.Maybe if the treaty was more lienient, World War 2 and the immoral holocaust may have been avoided.

Mustafa Kemal (Ataturk) and the Modernization of Turkey

Mustafa Kemal was a man who loved his country and wanted his people to be like the rest of the world and not to be seen as old world or behind on technology nd to find new traditions. He wanted his people to be more secular which means that people would be more interested to worldly items and not so connected to religon. He wanted his country to walk the road into becoming a superpower. He passed several lawsthat would make the process of modernizing and adapting to western culture eazier but the laws and rules may have been a little extreme. The rule banning the wearing of the fez hat seems meaningless but it was a deturant of dressing like that to the people and this definately had an affect onn the people of turkey and they knew that he wanted them to move foward. In the end Kemal was trying to help his people advance so they would not be left in the dust behind america and europe.

The Cause Of WW1

There were many causes to the great war that lasted such a long period of time but some events lead to the war more than others. The attack on serbia set Germany off ehich put a chain of events that wold envolve the majiority of europe, america, and asia. The war had started in a way because an assasination on an important dipomat named Frantz Ferdinand and this led europe ino a world of war and dedtruction. At the time everyone thought a war would be great and jumped into it with both feet but did not realize the death and genocide it would cause. The war raged on for many years involving trench warfare, gas tourture, and even machine guns it was the most brutal and deadly war the earth had ever experienced and the death toll was millions. All for political reasons a vast number of europeans, asians, and americans lost their lives in the event known as the great war.

Chinese Imperialsm And The Opium Wars

Opium was an addictive drug in the 1700s when europe went to china they traded opium knowing the chinese would get addicted and come back for more and would need opium from europe to give to the addicted people in china.Chinese officials were angered and did not want to trade with europe but were forced to and had imperialsm brought to them even though they wanted to remain isolation.Due to opium china had to open the "floodgates" to europe and trade for opium due to addiction.Europe did not want to see china isolated so they gave them no choice.

Mountains Of The Moon

In the film mountains of the moon we see british explorers traveling throughout africa to fina a lake that was a source of the nile. The hardships faced were desert terrain, laack of food and water, and unknown surrondings which would have lead to serious issues. Also the african people were scared and somewhat threatned by the new travelers and would sometimes show force or anger. The technolgies they had brought the africans never saw adn they were baffled and the europeans gave them a gun which the leader african liked and did not harm them because of the gifts. They found the source lake and named it lake victoria after the queen of england and had european influence in the conteinent of africa.

Imperialsm Project

The imperialsm project was like a demonstration of how fast land was conquered and changed to fit into the rest of the world. We saw how the change was a great effect and how the diagram quickly changed in the small representation of real life. The project showed me how easy it was for a country to quickly grow and expand and develop because of imperialsm and how they were conquered
